Pins & Buttons

By , October 25, 2011 6:23 am

When Erin and I were at the jewelry show on Saturday we noticed a booth that had a lot of decorative pins, and she told me how her mom used to wear holiday pins (instead of tacky holiday sweaters). I told Erin that I have somehow amassed a large collection of pins, mostly cats, of course.

(Oops – these photos aren’t really the same scale)

Do people still wear pins and buttons? Despite having so many, I have no clue what to do with them, except stick them on my winter coat, or on a sweater.

Do you know any fashionable way to wear pins/buttons? Do you have any?

I used to wear my Kirk Cameron button on my jean jacket when I was in Jr. High. 🙂

I spy a turtle pin in your collection! LOVE. I probably have a few turtles myself. I have fewer pins than I do buttons though. I apparently used to collect buttons when I was much younger. I have a stash of them but I have no idea what I would ever do with them. If you come up with anything, let me know.
Have you ever seen Office Space? Somebody bought me a ‘box of flare’ as a gift one year. I think they are attached to suspenders right now, actually.

Of course I have seen Office Space! Ha. That is a funny gift. No idea what to do with the buttons though! Maybe there is some cool idea on Pinterest or something!

I just noticed a McDonald’s name tag?! I still have mine from Petsmart. 😉

One thing I’ve tried is to take a few longer necklaces that kind of “go” together and secure them with a pin, like so: http://www.flickr.com/photos/notmargaret/5140720073/in/set-72157622400458499

I’ve also attached pins to tiny headbands to give my hair some flair, you can kind of (not really) see that here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/notmargaret/4623062706/in/set-72157622400458499

You could pin them to scarves! Wasn’t there one of those video tutorials that showed that?

I like to wear pins with scarves or on cardigans/jackets.

  7. I don’t really wear any. Sorry!

I wear vintage pins on jacket lapels fairly often, and I’ve used one on the knot of a square scarf before.

I think a stylish chica like you should leave the buttons in the nostalgia drawer.

I wear pins on my coat. I put buttons on my hiking caps.

My grandma LOVES pins. She has a huge collection. I remember when I was younger I used to sit on her bed and look through them.

I like how you have so many cat pins 🙂

I’d probably go with pins on the scarf tactic. I’m not sure why, but I feel like pin go better with cold weather wear… hmm. I have a few pins, but I never wear any. It seems like I’ve been in a rut with my jewelry lately.

  12. My sister is the queen of pins and brooches. She wears them on jackets, sweaters, fun tops – she’s soooo much more fashionable than me. I keep meaning to get a few pins to try to work into my wardrobe but I have yet to do so. I think they are really fun though!

Pins are like scarves to me….I’ve seen them done really well but I just can’t figure out how to do them myself!
You have a LOT!! You def need to figure out a way to incorporate them somehow.
