Waves on the Lakefront
On September 30th, Erin shared this crazy video of a runner on the Chicago Lakefront path getting hit by a HUGE wave on his run. Seriously, watch it.
Today I saw this article warning runners of 22 foot waves on the Lakefront path. The article says this storm should be worse than the September one in the video above. And I am supposed to run during lunch. Hmm. Looking out my office window now I can already see the waves. This should be interesting!
If you got soaking wet during a run would you keep running or call it a day and go home?
That is super crazy! I’d sit this one out today or at least seek higher ground.
That would be my cue to pack it in.
If that happened to me I would go straight home! I can handle running in the rain but that is just horrible!
Oh – be careful!!!
I usually try to brave the lakefront weather, but today I decided to take a pass. Be careful if you do head out!
That doesn’t really look fun. Did you go running? Did you get wet?
I went running. I got wet from the rain, but that was it. It was super windy though!
And I had a good time 🙂
I heard a rumor you may have run with my sister… 🙂
It’s true! Unfortunately, we could not chat too much with the wind howling in our ears!
Depends on the air temperature, I guess. If I got soaked and it was warm out, I’d keep going. But if I got soaked and it was cold I’d probably turn around and go home.
Glad to hear you didn’t get swept away!
Before I moved to Western Burbs I lived in Lakeview and would run and bike around that curve by Oak St beach a few times a week. The power of those waves is not to be unestimated. I got hit once. Not only is it the incoming wave but the return off the wall. I was on my bike training for a duathlon and was pulled off my bike. Guess the lake knew tris are not my sport.
I was driving Lakeshore Drive by that day and saw the crazy waves! Not to be messed around with!
