Friday Question #169
Do you like to go to the arcade (or places like Dave & Busters or Gameworks) to play games?
Here’s the thing. I really stink at video games. I am no good at them. So it seems silly for me to spend money playing them outside of my home, when I do so poorly. But, I do like watching other people play! So I will happily go along.
On Tuesday my older brother Nick was in town so we all went to one of those arcade places. Steven and Nick played most of the games.
But I decided I had to get in on a little Dance Dance Revolution action. It was my first time trying. And guess what? I totally stunk at it! But I had fun!
Steven would like you to take note of his creative camera work. If the video does not work (you have to have flash installed, I think), here is a link to it.
We also played a car racing game where they take a snapshot of you before you start, and then your picture is above the car you are racing… making it easier for other players to know which car you are in. I thought that was clever!
I like the arcade but I’m particular about which games I’ll play. I LOVE skee ball (I just texted Joey and told him if we lived closer to DC that I would make him join a Skee Ball league with me… yes, SKEE BALL LEAGUE!!) and I’m weirdly good at the basketball games (I beat Joey every time so he doesn’t like to play against me). I have played that racing game where they take your photo first! And D&B’s has a horse racing game where you roll balls to make your horse run and I like that one. So I guess I mostly like the physical games. I have never been brave enough to do the DDR in public though! If you ever come to my house we’ll have to hook up my old playstation and get out the DDR mats. I haven’t played in forever. I’ll also hook up the Karaoke revolution because I know how much you love to sing. 🙂
Skee Ball League? Why am I not surprised?
We will totally have to play DDR! I am completely awful at it. It’s probably pretty funny!
You didn’t say anything about riding a Harley with me! Also, thanks for mentioning my fabulous camera work, but you didn’t share the one that was nominated for the “best cinematography in an arcade of the year ” award…
The harley ride was fun 🙂
If you upload the vido to youtube (it’s on my computer) I will share it here 🙂
I suck at video games too, but that never stops me from draining my bank account and Dave and Busters…
You have a fun life, Kim! My kids love to go to those kinds of places – we went to a great one in Texas last year that also had a bowling alley which was great because I suck at video games but I LOVE to bowl!
Thanks 🙂 I am all about the fun!
We must go bowling when we finally get to meet! I am no good, but have my own ball and shoes 🙂
I really only like air hockey and skee-ball and old video games like Pac-Man. Other than that, I totally lose interest. But when I lived in Santa Cruz I liked to go to the arcade at the Boardwalk sometimes and as a kid I loved going to Bullwinkles (like Chuck E. Cheese) to play games.
AIR HOCKEY! Love it! I wish I had a game room with an air hockey table. Well, kind of. I would go for a basement with storage first and an exercise room. But a game room could be fun.
hahaha pretty sure I would fail miserably at that one too. Dancing of any kind and I do not get along.
Oh, DDR (or whichever one it was), I’m horrible at it. Strange considering I was on the dance team in high school, right? But for some reason I just can’t master the moves on that thing.
I think the last time I was at Dave & Buster’s I spent the entire time playing the trivia game. And I tend to lose at the racing games but I still find them fun.
I like Skee ball, though I’m not sure why. I’m not very good at it.
OMG, when I was a teen, I practically lived at the arcade. We had on in Garden Grove, CA called Yogi’s where all of us would hang out for hours. Then the Pac-man game at the local liquor store was fun, too.
Today, I like when I’m in a city that has a Dave & Busters where I’ll play games for a while. I’m not that good, but it’s still fun.
Oeh! I LOVE DDR!!
I’ve played it for a long year practicing once a week to get better and better. I finally got to expert :]
Tomorrow I’ll be playing again after a 1 year break, hope I still have what it takes XD
You should try it more often, if you get the hang of it and know the songs, it should be a lot easier and more fun 😀
