Another trip to Louisville

By , September 19, 2011 8:59 am
  • Yay! I get to go to Louisville for another four-day trip. Sigh. I am happy to be out of the office but don’t feel quite up to making small talk all week (and I am not really sure I will feel like I am out of the office – I am getting bombarded at work).
  • I found out my flight was delayed by two hours when I arrived at the airport. Oops. It gave me plenty of time to get through security (that’s the line to the security line in the picture below) then eat breakfast and do some work. Yay, productive morning.
  • I’ve been meaning to ask this for awhile – do you prefer air hand dryers or paper towels in public restrooms? For me, it’s paper towels all the way (yeah, I know it’s not sustainable). I am too impatient to wait for air hand dryers, and am especially annoyed by those turbo/jet ones.
  • I decided to make my own trail mix to bring with – by combining a seed/nut trail mix and a fruit mix. But first I had to take out the icky tree nuts. I do not care for tree nuts – the smell of them makes me feel sick (headaches) and I don’t like the way they taste.

  • I might start reading Cycling Home from Siberia on the plane . My sister’s boyfriend loaned it to me.
  • If I don’t read on the plane I will most surely be sleeping. All I wanted this weekend was a nap and I never got one.
  • I got a text from my brother this am that he is going to be in the Chicagoland area all week. While I am gone. Great luck, I have!
  • This post is boring – just a glimpse in to my week, ha ha. Obviously I feel kind of blah today, so please feel free to leave me comments with happy news/distractions.

I kinda like the turbo hand dryers. Otherwise I’d prefer paper towels.
Are tree nuts a type of nut or just any nut that grows on a tree?
Have fun in Louisville (as much as you can anyway while working). Too bad you’ll be missing your brother.
Happy news… hmmm. I think I’ve already shared all my happy news with you.

The Dyson airblade is one of the world’s best inventions, ever.

^^I hate the airblade. Every time I stick my hands in I manage to touch the sides (eww). I definitely prefer paper towels, especially the ones that are automatic so I don’t have to touch the dispenser. And I prefer doors that are pull to enter, push to exit so I don’t have to touch the door with my clean hands. Or at least they need to have paper towels and a garbage near the door if it is a pull to exit.

Happy news… I’m eating a pop tart and drinking a chai latte at work! 🙂

    I’m a paper towel girl too…

Try to have a good week in Louisville – and I hope you get LOTS of naps!

but it’s so much fun watching your skin flap back and forth when you use those turbo dryers!

Tree nuts give you headaches…hmmm….is this all in your head : P

  6. Paper towels, definitely; otherwise, the point of washing your hands is moot, since you’re immediately going to touch a germ-infested door handle!

I love the turbojet driers! But I still prefer paper towels…I know, I’m destroying the environment…

Here is my overly complex answer to your hand-drier question:
I do not like air driers UNLESS it is the XLerator (the jet one where you can watch your skin flap around). Those work really quickly and it’s sustainable! BUT only if the door swings out on the bathroom. Otherwise I prefer paper towels, so I can use one to shield myself from the handle I have to pull to get out of the bathroom (which would totally negate washing my hands if I didn’t have the paper towel). Also, whether there is a garbage can within tossing distance of the bathroom exit is factored in there somewhere too. This answer reminds me of how Sally orders pie in “When Harry Met Sally.”

I prefer paper towels, too. I know, we’re so bad!

And that is quite the line for security. I guess there’s a lot of business travelers on Monday morning.

Mmmm, trail mix. I bought some that was a mixture of rice crackers and sesame sticks a few weeks ago. It was quite tasty.

I’m wearing my “Live, Love, Laugh” necklace today. A nice sentiment on a gray, blah day.

For public restrooms, I’m mixed. Mostly on the side of air dryers, but there are times when a towel is nice for when I want to wipe the travel oil and grum off my face.

I miss business travel. I used to fly a ton in the 90’s, but then switched jobs in early 2000 and again in 2003 and haven’t traveled for business since. One of these days, once I switch jobs again, I’m hoping to get to travel some.

I prefer paper towels. They’re more sanitary than the hand dryers. The friction of rubbing the towels on your hands actually helps get off more bacteria. The hand dryers suck up air from the bottom, which means sucking up bacteria from the floor, where people and their dirty shoes walk.

Plus, I like having a paper towel to open the bathroom door with. Do you know how many people DON’T wash their hands? YUCK!!!

  12. I used to hate air hand dryers, UNTIL they came out with the turbo dryers. I totally dig them and much prefer them to the waste of paper towels.

  13. I hate the hand dryers. Theyre too noisy, and they take too long. I have no patience for that.

  14. dad says:

Hand dryers work best when you need to dry out the distributor cap of your hoodless car that has sat out in the rain or maybe that’s just me.

  15. ChezJulie says:

I prefer paper towels, too. I’ve noticed the trend back towards paper towels in recent years. Obviously there has been some pushback against air dryers from the hand washers of America.

I like tree nuts, now that I know what they are.
