The missing running bullet points

By , September 13, 2011 1:12 pm

Jen was nice enough to ask what my running bullets points were, so here they are:

  • I just got my NYC Marathon bib # and start time! 53702, orange corral, start time 10:40. Not sure if I am running on the top or bottom of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge yet.
  • View of the top – photo from here. I hear the bottom is less of an incline.

  • This late start time justifies starting so late to run on Saturday (11:00am). See – I’m not crazy! I’m just getting used to running during lunchtime. Right? RIGHT?!
  • People’s responses to me running the Milwaukee and NYC Marathon are interesting. Some think I should run Milwaukee as training for NYC. Some think I should run Milwaukee for time and NYC for fun. Well, they are both for fun – I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t think it was fun!
  • There is a short article in the October Runner’s World about why marathon training doesn’t help you shed pounds (read here). I’m definitely in the overeating/”I eat what I want!” camp. I weigh the same as I did in May and I am okay with that. I can run really far and don’t have any pain, and that’s cool with me. I’ll lose weight another time.
  • Speaking of pain, yesterday was the first time this entire training cycle I have felt sore at all (guess that is what happens after running 33 miles (stupidly) in two days). And today I feel great! Not sure what I am doing right – maybe it’s luck.
  • I mentioned I feel out of touch with my running club right now. I was burnt out after the club 5K, and haven’t been running with club people for all of August (I’ve been running with Erin – which makes sense, since we are running a marathon together). Anyway, I was feeling a bit hurt for not being included in things (or the perception of that), but really, it’s up to ME to stay in touch with people, and participate! And maybe I don’t want to right now and that’s okay!

You are NOT crazy! You are amazing! I am in awe of all the painfree miles you have been putting in, and of how great you looked on Sunday AFTER running 22 the day before – you were solid the WHOLE way!

I am so excited for you to run NY – that is so on my bucket list. And Milwaukee is going to be amazing…I was a teeny bit sad to NOT be running that one (it’d have been amazing to run it with Ryianti and pull each other to sub 5 together BESIDES being there with you and Erin), well until this morning when I OD’d on TCM race reports! 🙂

Ha ha. Thanks! I hope I did not jinx myself by typing that!

You will have a blast at TCM! Besides, if you did Milwaukee you would have to deal with the family logistics! Now you can be out on your own and focus on the race!

I feel better now that you shared these bullet points. 😉

I was curious about your running bullet points too but I forgot to ask.
My legs are SORE today (and they were yesterday too) from the half on Sunday. My feet don’t hurt though so I’m ok with it. I ran 5 easyish miles today and now I’m walking like an old lady. Hopefully tomorrow they’ll snap back. My shins hurt the most.

You’re running the NYC Marathon?! How exciting! I can’t wait to read all about it!! 🙂

  5. Erin says:

    Well of course you’re sore!

I think it’s so crazy that the NY Marathon is so large that they have people starting at 10:40! But, you’re right; now you’ve had the practice getting in long runs over lunch 🙂

Um…33 miles in 2 days??? Wowzers! Yup, you are pretty hard core my dear!

Thanks for your comment on my blog! I didn’t quite make my goal pace, but like you said, I really need to get on that whole gel/chew/gu train. Any recommendations?
For some reason, they gave me both medals. I think they were a bit out of sorts at the time, so I’m not sure if I was supposed to have both.

I take GUs every 4 miles for runs longer than 10 miles. I have a friend who takes shot bloks about every 4 miles. Just experiment and see what you like! I have also taken granola bars and other real food with me.

  8. Yay! I like hearing about the other things going on in your life, but running ones are the ones I usually have something to say! (other than cute kitty!)

  9. Amy says:

So excited for you to be running New York – I know you will have a great time!

  10. gina says:

can NOT wait to cheer you on for the NYC marathon!

Can I follow you like I did for the Chicago marathon for Milwaukee (text messages)?

    • kilax says:

I am super excited for you guys to be there! You have to carry a big balloon or something so I can identify you.

They will probably have tracking too.

I feel like I must have been under a rock, and I totally didn’t realize that your second marathon this fall was NYC. SO EXCITING!
