Lost then found
I was really excited when Steven sent me the text “Look what I found on the floor” and this picture yesterday:
When I got back from my late June trip to Louisville, I was unpacking on the bed, when my jewelry spilled all over. I found everything except for ONE diamond stud earring. I was really upset and looked all over the bed and floor for a few days but couldn’t find it. I thought there was a slight chance it was in the truck of the rental car, so I called them. They were really helpful but never found it.
So I thought I lost the earring (of course, my most expensive pair of earrings). I was really upset with myself, because this would be the second time I lost jewelry Steven gave me. In college I took a necklace off to play a game of intramural soccer and had a friend put it in his pocket. He lost it in the soccer field. I looked and never found it. And it was the first piece of jewelry Steven gave me!
Anyway, I felt awful about the earring, and kind of gave up looking, but then Steven sent that text yesterday! He found it in our office, buried in the carpet under my desk chair. I have NO idea how it got there, but am really happy he found it! I felt so naked without my stud earrings – they are the ones I wear most of the time because they are so simple and go with everything.
Have you ever lost anything really valuable or important to you? Have you ever found anything you thought you lost?
I rarely lose or misplace things, so when I do, I feel really stupid and get pretty upset. Mature, I know.
YAY! I’m so glad you found it!
Weird place to find it! Maybe it was stuck on your clothing?
That is what I was thinking. Or maybe to a sock? Or Dates?!
Glad you found it!
So glad you found it!!
When we went to MN for the funeral, we were getting settled in our hotel room after the long drive, and I realized I was missing one of my gold hoop earrings. They aren’t sentimental – I bought them myslef – but they are simple and I wear them with everything. We looked, and looked in the parking lot, and I wrote it off.
When we got home, it was sitting in the bathroom where I keep my everyday jewelry. I never even put the darn thing in. Which means I spent the entire day with one earring in, and no one noticed. Ha!
Ha! You should start wearing one earring now to see if people notice. That was really popular the summer I lived in Rome (2006).
I also once thought I lost a diamond stud earring in our old apartment, and tore through everything trying to find it, only for it to mysteriously appear a few days later in another room. My theory is that it was stuck to a bath towel or something. Lucky us that those sneaky earrings turned up!
I already told you my story about my ring and the Christmas tree. I’ve also dropped contacts only to find them later stuck to random things. Recently I found one on the floor of the bedroom. I don’t take my contacts out in the bedroom!
I lost my bike water bottle (my fun insulated one) this weekend at the conference. I left it on the conference room table and it was gone the next day. I’m irritated at myself for losing it but thankfully it wasn’t expensive and will be easy to replace.
Yay for finding the earring! I haven’t ever lost anything valuable, but we have a funny family story that involves an earring. Imagine Christmas Day. I was in high school and asked to shovel the path from the cars to the house. As I’m shoveling, I come across my mom’s earring. A little while later, my whole family is in the car. I say to my mom, “I found your earring.” She says, “What?” A little louder, I say, “I found your earring.” Again, she replies, “What?” So, I yell, “You have something wrong with your hearing.” At which point, my dad (who is driving) freaks out and says, “What, there’s something wrong with the steering???” OMG, shoot me now. A teenagers nightmare has become pretty hilarious family folklore! =)
HA! This story was hilarious. 🙂
HURRAY! Glad Steven found the earring!! I lost both pairs of my diamond earrings once. I never found them, but I was fortunate enough that Steve replaced them for my birthday one year. But, I still feel awful about it because he gave me the original diamond earrings the night before our wedding.
I was worried Steven would have to replace mine too. But now he can just get me something different! LOL 🙂
Phew! So glad the earring surfaced!
I thought I lost a Tiffany necklace in Vegas and we backtracked all through Cesars Palace, went to security, made them rip apart the booth we sat at for dinner.
Nothing.
I got home to find it in a pocket of my makeup bag. SO happy to have it ‘back’!
Ha ha ha. Phew, right? 🙂
I lose jewelry ALL THE TIME. It is terrible. I have 2 jewelry boxes, but jewelry ends up on my desk, my nightstand, the bathroom counter, etc etc depending on when I feel the urge to take it off. I need to make sure I take those extra few seconds to put it AWAY!
Aw, I’m so glad you found it! I lost a diamond stud once that my grandmother had given me- I was pretty bummed.
the other day i “lost” my car. okay, it was stolen. FROM MY DRIVEWAY!!! luckily we got it back in one piece, with nothing missing just a few hours later thanks to lojack. but the appreciation i have for it now is unending!!!
Yay for finding it! I lose stuff all the time. Just last Saturday my car key fell out of my fuel belt pocket on the long run. Thankfully someone brought it to the trailhead and I got it back there!
SO glad you found it! I lost a pair of fake diamond earrings a few years ago and I was so upset! I get really attached to my jewelry because I don’t find much that I like so when I lose a fav pair its sad.
I get really attached too. Mostly because I can remember how I acquired almost every piece 🙂
I lose many, many things (like a computer….). I thought that I had lost my wedding ring 2-3 years ago, and I was a total mess. Fortunately we found it – it was under a sunscreen bottle!
I was very psyched and relieved that we found it. It isn’t worth much in terms of cold, hard cash, but there is the sentimental value.
That’s great that your earring showed up! Hooray!
Oh goodness! If I lost my wedding ring, I would freak out! It just means so much! I am happy you found yours 🙂
I’ve lost a laptop, a cell phone and almost an iPod (found it later). This past weekend, I almost lost my wedding ring. We went to visit my wife’s sister in Vancouver, WA. We flew up one way and then bought their car and drove it back (will blog about this very soon). I took off my ring at TSA security and then don’t remember leaving it anywhere. Turns out I left it at their house. I was very worried last night when I couldn’t find it and properly retrace my steps.
Oh my gosh! It would break my heart if I lost my wedding ring! I am so happy they had it!!!
