Not a foodie
Despite the fact that I sometimes post pictures of the food we make at home, like Vegan Chicken Alfredo Pizza:
(Vegan Alfredo sauce, spinach, potato, onion, tomato and boca chicken topped with spices)
Acorn Squash fries (so so good):
and Kim’s (girl evolving) Meatless Meatballs:
I am not a foodie.
It’s hard to find a good description of a foodie online – I think because it means different things to different people. But this description gets kind of close:
a person having an enthusiastic interest in the preparation and consumption of good food
And that is NOT me.
I like to eat. I look forward to meals. I get excited about certain ones. But I do NOT enjoy cooking. I don’t find it relaxing. I find it stressful – I don’t know what I am doing. I look at recipes and feel overwhelmed. So, all of the food above? Made by Steven, except for the acorn squash fries – I could at least handle those.
Do you consider yourself to be a foodie?
Not related, but I had to post this funny picture of Data!
I love it when cats have their tongue stuck out – too cute!
I enjoy cooking when I’m in the right mood and the right space. I rarely enjoy it in this apartment because the kitchen is so tiny and terrible. But at my mom’s house, with her wide open kitchen and fully-stocked pantry, I’d be happy for hours.
Can I call myself a semi-foodie? I mean- I enjoy the experience of creating a good meal, or going to a new restaurant and trying new things. But at the same time, sometimes I just need to whip up something in less than 10 minutes. Or have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch/dinner. I don’t think the foodie gods would be so much impressed with that one…
I’m not sure I’d fit the definition of a foodie but I do love to cook and eat.
Love the picture of Data!!
Did you like the meatless meatballs?
We did like them! I think the next time we make them we are going to experiment with some of our fave spices 🙂
I aspire to be a foodie? It’s hard to be a foodie when at least half (and sometimes 2/3) of the people in your house would rather have hot dogs or chicken nuggets. I’m slowly converting my oldest, but I have a looooong way to go. I love Thanksgiving, because I get to cook all day for people who enjoy it and I give myself a pass on caring whether or not my kids eat anything…
I don’t consider myself a foodie either. One of my pet peeves is when people call themselves a foodie but clearly just want to load as much healthy crap into one dish as possible.
“One of my pet peeves is when people call themselves a foodie but clearly just want to load as much healthy crap into one dish as possible.” So if someone wants to eat healthy they can’t be a foodie? I don’t really understand this statement.
I think Mica was talking about people who substitute out every item from a recipe… so instead of brownies with chocolate and sugar you have black bean brownies with coffee, bananas and other obscure ingredients. 😉
Pfftttt we already know the answer to this question, right? 😀
What is it that overwhelms you about the recipe?
The coordination. And unfamiliarity. I have no idea of how things work in the kitchen, and trying to coordinate a bunch of things together intimidates me.
i am not a foodie, in that I don’t know crazy ingredients and I can happily eat things that look all kinds of messy. But I have started to find some enjoyment in slowing down to cook…um 5 ingredient meals
I wouldn’t call myself a foodie, but I love, love, love to cook and like to try new dishes and new preparations. And it goes along with my gardening. It’s peace and relaxation for me.
But when all is said and done and I’m having a bad day? I want a peanut butter and velveeta sandwich on white bread. So. Not a foodie.
Oh Data, Manny is very envious of your pearly whites!
I think the definition of a Foodie can go either way. I have a colleague at work that loves trying new restaurants, different menus, etc. but doesn’t cook – she considers herself a foodie. You’re right, the definition means different things to different people.
I heart the consumption of yummy food. It makes me happy, lol. I think Steven’s vegan chicken alfredo pizza would make me very happy.
Via dictionary.com: Foodie: a person keenly interested in food, esp. in eating or cooking.
How is Manny doing sans teef?
Maybe we can make pizza for you when we come visit! 🙂
hmmm . . . I consider myself foodie-ish. I really love food a lot, and I really love to cook. But only when I WANT to, and sometimes I just dont want to cook. Sometimes I would rather grate a potato into a frying pan and call it dinner.
I am so not a foodie. I appreciate good food, and I like to dabble in cooking, but I could never take pictures of everything I eat. I just get bored. I do like trying new restaurants and things, but I can also go weeks eating the same breakfast and lunch almost every day. So, I don’t know. I have an inner foodie in there somewhere, but she’s pretty quiet.
Hilariously cute Data pic!
I don’t consider myself a foodie but I may be as I love to cook/bake and would do a ton more of it if I wouldn’t eat my weight in whatever.
I’ve got to make those acorn squash fries as I’ve got 2 sitting here looking at me…do I make them just as I would sweet potato ones?
Thanks about Data!
I am not sure how you make sweet potato fries, but I will tell you how I made these – skinned the damn thing (took forever) cut them in to strips, sprayed pam on a sheet, put fries on the sheet and sprinkle with salt and other seasonings, bake to desired crispiness at 400-425 for 30-45 flipping once.
Does that sound the same? They were SO good. Hope you like them!
i am *definitely* a foodie! helps that i was raised by a foodie, for sure 🙂
I love to eat and love to try different things…but I don’t really love to cook. I think I would enjoy cooking more if I felt more confident. I need to practice more to gain that confidence.
So not a foodie! I don’t aspire to be and I’m perfectly happy with my non-foodie ways. 🙂 I can live vicariously through other foodies, haha.
I like to think I’m a foodie, but I won’t eat fancy things like caviar and pate’ (although I do love sushi) so maybe not?
We’ve probably talked about this–I would cook so much more if I had the time. I love to cook. Last time I was unemployed I made sour dough bread completely from scratch! Unfortunately, most of what I make/eat is whatever is quickest to eat/pack from point a to point b.
I’m not a foodie (not yet) but I really do love baking and cooking. I also just love food in general. If it weren’t for my ED I’m almost positive that I would be a foodie!
Semi-foodie? But the kind that likes to try different restaurants rather than the kind who likes to cook.
Actually, I do like to cook. I just rarely do it because I’m tired when I get home from work/the gym and I usually just slap something together.
When I first did Weight Watchers years ago I got really into cooking healthy and I always enjoyed it.
Not a foodie. I mean, I cook but mostly out of necessity rather than enjoyment. And I don’t LOVE going out to eat. So, yeah, I’m definitely an eat to live person instead of a live to eat person. I’m guessing you’re the same.
Yeah, I am. It’s just not always the focus of my life. I don’t want it to be!
So, I would say almost, but I would (and DO) eschew the ‘title’!
I admit that I am from a family of foodies (and drinkies – ha ha), so it would be hard for me to avoid, and I know that my partner and I are VERY different when it comes to food. It is a much bigger deal to me to cook and plan meals, while he is much more laissez-faire. Personally, I think that I would like to be laissez-faire, but I also like to plan meals and figure out what we buy from the farmer’s market will go with X. And, I must say, food does make me very happy. Last night, we ordered pizza, and I was SO content to have pizza. It is a bit of a mood thing with me.
That said, I also DON’T make a big deal out of how I eat, unlike some people that I know who seem to be a bit smug in their eating habits.
Finally, the one area that I really AM a foodie – cheese. I do like a good cheese and I know my cheeses well. To me, good cheese = total bliss.
