Shoes, shoes everywhere

By , October 25, 2010 5:22 am

Awhile ago, I mentioned that I would be doing a waffle maker review through CSN stores. Well, sadly, the waffle maker I wanted to order became unavailable the day I wrote the post. Schweet. So, we ordered a shoe rack instead, because our garage looks like this:

And yes, those are mostly ALL my shoes. There are 17 pairs of shoes in the picture and I circled the two that are not mine. So we obviously needed a shoe rack, right?

The one we ordered is pretty nice – it looks good and is sturdy. But Steven had to use his tap and die set to re-thread one of the legs and put the “foot” on. The leg had paint and glue in it, and the foot would only screw in a little bit before it stopped. If we didn’t have a tap and die set, we probably would have had to return the product.

It does the job though! Voila!

And I will have you know that I threw two or three pairs of shoes away, put a few in my closet, and am going to recycle three pairs:

Picture from Sunday

Does anyone else have a zillion pairs of shoes in their garage? How do you organize all of your shoes, no matter where they are?

I do NOT really care for shoes. I am not a “shoe person” at ALL. Yet, I have what feels like a zillion pairs. I have them on a shelf in my closet (the Brooks and Asics boxes are empty):

I have a hanging shoe rack on my closet rod:

and I have a hanging shoe sleeve thing on the inside of my closet door:

WAY too many shoes. TOO many.

I love how you have your race numbers!!!!

I have a shoe rack, shoes on the floor and shoes under my bed. Too many shoes, for sure!

Whoa – that’s a lot of shoes! I need to get one of those shoe racks for my husband – he is the shoe horse in our family.

  3. Kandi says:

Wow, for not being a “shoe person” you sure do have a lot of shoes… I am somewhat of a shoe person and I think you have me beat!
I don’t have a garage (stupid apartment). I keep my shoes in my closet on a shoe rack and on the floor in front of the rack. Works for now but it is overflowing for sure.
I like your race numbers too! I tape mine to my cabinets at work.

  4. I just recently went through my closet and got rid of a bunch of shoes I was keeping for sentimental reasons (certain races were done in them). I took a picture of the shoes before I got rid of them because I am a total crazy person with the sentimental thing.

I love how you hve the race numbers. I remember talking about that with you once but I never saw it and saw how cool it is.

Ha! Did you put all of the pics in a shoe photo album?

Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ There are some pics of you on my wall!

  5. Your closet looks somewhat like mine — I have a hanging shoe rack and one of those “sleeves” too. Two of them, actually, one for each closet door, and they’re both full. And that’s not counting the dozen pairs or so on my bedroom floor. All this, and I wear pretty much the same couple of pairs all the time!!

Awwww, my picture’s in your closet! (I LOVE how you have your bibs and medals and pics organized…you may very well prove to be inspiration for getting my pile displayed)

You have a LOT of shoes.

We ended up buying a cabinet for shoes a few years back. There are 6 rows, one row for each family member, and when it’s closed it looks like a buffet, so it works well in our dining area. It is seriously the best thing I ever bought (think of your family’s shoes. Multiply times 3. Ugh – bane of my exisitance…I STILL am forever tripping on a shoe, even with trying to organize them.)

Thanks! You ARE in there. And will be again after our 10K! What do you want to do with your bibs/medals?

Your cabinet sounds like a really good idea! I go crazy just when my mom and sister come with all of their shoes and they are all over!

And I thought I had a lot of shoes! WOW! I do have a few extra pairs of old running shoes lying around that I need to get rid of. They just tend to be my walking shoes after i retire them from running and then I never get rid of them.

  8. Erin says:

I agree; for not being a shoe person you sure keep a lot of them around ๐Ÿ™‚ I know, I know, you probably didn’t buy many of them yourself.

I have one of those over-the-door shoe sleeves on both my bedroom door and the guest room door. I also have shoes in boxes under the guest bed and my running shoes just sort of land in various spots throughout the house. Years ago I actually asked for shoe racks for Christmas when I still lived with my parents. They thought I was crazy but I loved them!

  9. Ali says:

OH! Tidy and organized makes me so happy, even seeing pictures of your tidiness and organized system makes me smile.

You never have to many shoes.

  11. Hahaha that is hilarious!! I don’t have a garage but we used to have about 10-15 pairs of shoes in a PILE by our front door. It was NOT appealing in our tiny apartment so we got a shoe rack and it helped a ton!!

  12. Kim says:

I think I would have more shoes if we had more space. We have one closet (not a walk-in) so I have to limit my crap. I usually take at least 3-4 pairs of shoes to Goodwill every year. I fear what would happen to our marriage if we had a garage. Yikes.

  13. RunningLaur says:

I thought I had a ton of shoes, but you may have JUST about as many as I do! I have a small shoe rack at my front door with my active running shoes (I try to keep less than 6 pairs around as ‘active ones…) and then all of my dress shoes are in the plastic bins like you have.

I’m finding some of the CSN stuff to not be of the highest quality myself… my couch that I purchased a little over a month ago (delivery issues) is supposed to be here later in the day. Fingers crossed.

  14. ChezJulie says:

Wow, it feels good to see someone else decluttering, too! ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t think you should count the flip flops because they’re not “real” shoes. And the ones in the garage are exercise equipment. See… less shoes already!

  15. Kapgar says:

Im still trying to figure out what to review through CSN since the product I want is waaaaaayy backordered.

As for tour shoes, do you really use them all because I know my local running store takes donations of old shoes for African charities. Your stores might too. Good use for them all.

    • kilax says:

This is the second time that the item I have wanted on CSN has been unavailable ๐Ÿ™

I put all of my old running shoes in a bag to take to charity ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just gotta take them there now!

  16. Adam says:

Oh. My. LOrd. SERIOUSLY!? That many shoees!?!??!

I am always amazed at how that is 95% a XX chromosome thing. I have maybe 5 pairs of shoes….. (lets count!!)

    Black work shoes
    brown work shoes
    marathon shoes
    trainer shoes (half marathon)
    Track flats
    Yard shoes
    sandles
    hiking shoes
    normal puma shoes.

    the end! ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. martymankins says:

Ok, you do have more shoes than I do. And here I thought 12 was too many.
