Friday Question #125
Are you crafty? Do you like to build/create/fix things?
I have two crafty talents – baking:
“Happy Birthday” and “50” cookies for my mom’s 50th birthday
Reindeer Sugar Cookies!
and building models:

(You can see the last architectural portfolio I created in college here.)
I had to build architectural models all five years in college, and even worked for an Italian Architect building them during the summer of 2006 (yikes, that was such a long time ago!).
What are your hidden talents?
I just found out that my sister can make BEAUTIFUL jewelry! She made me a bunch of earrings for my birthday! Here is a picture of one of them:
And we all know Steven is super handy. He made me a beautiful pencil case for our first holiday together, and we made this component rack for his closet together in 2005. I won’t mention that Steven is also good at destroying things too*. Ha!
*He wanted me to add that he “fixes what he breaks.” True, true.
I’ve always wanted to be crafty but I can barely draw a smiley face. ๐ I’m going to be a terrible Mom who can’t draw pictures or design Halloween costumes for her kids–but neither could my mom, so I guess it’s genetic.
I like being crafty but I am not always motivated to do so. I can crochet and knit a little and I learned to quilt not long ago. I also like to bake and took a cake decorating class (though haven’t really used those skills since).
I consider myself moderately crafty. I usually need to watch a tutorial or something before I can do certain things though. Those architectural models are so cool!
I am not crafty what-so-ever! My mom was probably enternally disappointed with me growing up because all my pictures ended up looking like blobs ๐ I’m not too bad at home projects, but it’s more of a last resort.
I love the birthday cookies– you are a great baker!
i’m pretty crafty. i used to run a jewelry business in el paso when i wasn’t working, per se. i loved it, it was fun, but it was very tough once it got “production” like. much more fun when it wasn’t a job
I’d guess my craftiest thing is my scrapbooking. But even then I’m no where near as creative as some people.
Your architecture models and drawings are amazing. But I can see why you were so stressed in college! They look really complicated and time consuming.
Thanks ๐
I like your scrapbooks. They are nice and organized and not out of control. I have seen a lot with so much flair that you don’t even know where to look!
I crochet but that is about it on the crafty! I try everything else but well not so successful (but hey trying is most of the fun) ๐
I wish I had more time to devote to crafts. I used to knit and sew. I loved making jewelry- there is a heap of stuff to organize for that endeavor on my craft desk which, sadly, I need to dismantle to make room for the boyfriend and his things. I love to cook & bake too.
I love being crafty! I love scrapbooking, photography and anything to do with pictures. I like to draw and paint too. I experimented quickly with jewelry making and crochet, but I’m not sure it was for me.
For a while there, I really wanted to be an architect – your models look SO cool, kind of makes me wish I had done it. I bet architecture school was HARD work though!
LOVE your cookies!
I pretend to be crafty. I did a lot for our wedding that I’m super proud of but I haven’t done much since.
Those models are so cool! I would love to be talented in that way. I’m not a very visual person, so I’m not drawn to crafty things. I do like baking, but I’m not very creative. Your cookies look awesome! Most of my creativity is channeled into writing.
Crafty I am not. I’m not sure if it’s because I don’t have the talent or because I never truly tried to be. Hmm.
You have a special talent with taking photos though!
I don’t mind doing DIY repairs around the house. And I just recently discovered that I love to cook. But making/building things from scratch for fun is something I’ve always had zero interest in. My girlfriend is the arty/crafty/makey one in our house.
With an art teacher for a mother, I’m crafty by default – it’s just part of my being. Luckily, it made studio classes the easiest and most fun things around. I love (and lothe of course) models.
Anything else like painting, scrapbooking, crocheting, cake decorating, gluing glitter on pine cones, you can bet I’ve done it. Most of the art in our house is things that I’ve made, mainly because it’s cheap that way!
Love the model! Very cool.
I really enjoy building stuff, but I don’t have the space for it these days. I’ve made jewelry, lamps, and kinetic sculptures.
Thanks!
And don’t forget your awesome photos! I think those count!
The reindeer cookies are precious! I am not crafty in a creative way, but I can fix almost any household appliance or computer problem. So far, I have put a new fuse in an outdoor AC unit, fixed toilets, sinks, and can install new electrical outlets. It’s crazy that I can do these things, but I have found it’s much cheaper to read manuals and try it myself before hiring someone to do it.
My husband is just like that – so handy! I wish I was more that way!
I’m definitely not crafty at all. Or creative. Or artistic. Things like that don’t really run in my family. ๐ Your skills make up for the lack of mine!
Man, you are an excellent baker! Your stuff turns out so professionally, AND I can *personally* vouch for the wonderful taste of your Christmas goodies.
I’m not super crafty, though I am getting better at baking. I am also trying to get into knitting.
Aww, thank you! ๐
You should knit some cool clothes for Bodger! He would look cute with a stocking cap ๐
I hate making models, but yours looks great of course! ๐ From now on when I have to make a model I’m just going to cut my finger tip off right away so I don’t have to pretend to work on it before Will takes over.. ๐
I love being crafty, but it definitely comes in spurts. I will be really into scrapbooking one week, then move to painting the next, jewelry making, knitting, etc. Never can focus on one thing long enough to get really good at it!
Love you!
