Friday Question #119

What is your favorite game to play with a regular deck of cards? What games do you like to play with specialized cards?

I don’t know many cards games, but I wish I did! Steven and I have this old book with card games listed in it. We brought it with us this week to a concert in the park so we could play cards while listening to music.

What did we play? Go Fish! Or, as the book called it, “Fish.” Can you believe I didn’t remember how to play?

Go fish

I sure do play a mean game of Go Fish!

I really wanted to play something more similar to Rummy, since I had so much fun playing Phase 10 a few weeks ago with my family, but meh, Go Fish is good enough for me. For now!

Please share your favorite games so I have some to try!

I used to play Rummy with my Dad. It’s a great game. I also like Gin. My friends and I usually play Texas Hold Em though. When my niece is old enough I can’t wait to teach her Go Fish, War, and Uno.

  2. Erin says:

Cribbage, hands down. We could play for hours. We do play for hours!

  3. I love card games! My youngest and I play war, the dance off version…when you should have war you have to dance and the first one to fall over or quit loses the card.

But seriously, I love to play old maid (but I think more than 2 people are needed or it is no fun) and fish but I wish I knew more games for a plain deck of cards. We have phase 10, and skipbo which I love too. Sometimes I feel like an old lady because I am always asking my kids to come play cards with me. To me that seems like a grandma thing to do but I guess that’s because I used to do that with my grandma all the time.

I grew up with a gigantic family who loves cards – almost every family get together would involve some kind of card game. With my kids, it’s kings in the corners or go fish. Or Uno – we play lots of Uno. With grownups, I love gin, 500, pinochle, euchre, and cribbage.

  5. omg I love cards! I don’t know many games either though. Scott and I play Rummy but we tweaked the rules a bit to make it more, um, competitive. We keep score and taunt each other, so fun! 😀

  6. ShutupandRun says:

I love double solitaire (two decks) and gin rummy. And of course blackjack in Vegas!

  7. Felicia says:

Spite and Malice (a cheap version of skip-bo)

  8. BostonRunner says:

I love playing cards! I think rummy is my favorite at the moment

I was introduced to EUCHRE in college and loved it — so much so that I suffered from withdrawal when I graduated and went back to Malaysia where no one really plays cards… Then I discovered Yahoo!Games and got my euchre fix… but also ended up learning CANASTA there and enjoyed but always thought it would be impossible to play ‘live’ what with all the cards you needed to juggle (you play with two decks) but I’d gotten hubby intrigued so we hunted down the rules, and we muddled through one or two games, and now if we do play cards, that’s our first choice 🙂

    Summary: Euchre and Canasta 🙂

  10. sizzle says:

I remember playing cards daily in Mexico. Our game of choice was gin. Our drink of choice was beer. Best vacation of my life. But for the life of me I can’t remember how to play gin now!

  11. k8 says:

My friends and I play a game called “Nickle nickel” but there’s NO WAY I’d be able to describe it to you via a comment. It’s kind of like rummy and it’s perfect for two people.

  12. Leah says:

My dad and I used to play rummy all the time – I dont think I would remember how to play it now though. We also played crazy 8’s and kings corner a lot.

  13. So I’m going to bow my head in shame and say that I actually don’t know how to play any card games. When I was growing up none of my friends and I ever played card games. Ever.

My girlfriend knows how to play everything and we’ve had people over for card nights and I just laugh and get totally creamed by everyone for being a card noob.

  14. kaylen says:

    We loooooove Phase 10!!!
And Cribbage is a really great game!
Spoons is super-fun, with cards and kitchen spoons.
We used to play Rummy a lot when I was growing up, but I haven’t played for years and years.

  15. Christina says:

We have new house. You come play Phase 10 with us. Yes please.

  16. Amy says:

I used to play gin rummy with my dad but not sure if I would remember the rules now. The card game we have most recently played was UNO!

  17. i haven’t played with a deck of cards in forever but i remember loving “war”

  18. Spades! We love it! Everytime we get together with my family a Spades game usually breaks out!

  19. I LOVE your cat cards!!!! Too freaking cute!!!
    =^..^=

Fish and Crazy 8’s were two of my favorites growing up. My mom always had an aversion to playing cards, since she equated them to gambling. Now a days, I like Texas Hold ‘Em. My wife, loves a good game a Solitaire.
