Quick blog update – spam
For some reason, I am getting hit by about, oh, 10 spam comments every minute right now. Check out the peak on the right edge of the chart below! And I’ve gotten even more spam comments since then.
Anyway, I usually read through all of the spam to look for mistakes, but since I have 500+, I’m not going to. Please send me an email if your comment gets caught in spam. It most likely will not! And this will probably die down after awhile. Just a heads up.
Since I am here, I should let you know, I worked from home one day this week, and because I did not commute, am about 200+ posts behind. I will catch up! That’s me, leaving comments on posts from the past…

Holy cow! I think I have maybe 70 spam comments total since I started blogging in November? Maybe this means you hit the big time 😉

I took myself off of google search abilities because the spam was crazy. I really hated having to be search’less but I couldn’t take it!
Spam is a pain—I had to turn on word verification just because of that. Which I hate because I hate doing the word thing 🙂
About a month ago, I was hit with a lot of spam but it went away after about 3 days. Weird and annoying.
All that spam is crazy! Something weird is going on with your computers/websites for sure. Hope it all gets back to normal soon.
I know you don’t have wordpress so I’m sure it’s different but… do you know how to check the spam comments on wordpress? It says how many spam comments are blocked but I can’t figure out how to check the spam comments.
Your backed up posts sound just like mine! I have 154 missed posts right now in my reader and I’m pretty sure that for some of the blogs I’m just going to press “mark all as read” and try to do better from now on! lol
I do use wordpress. There is a “Spam” section under comments (along the top of the screen when you are in comments). Or, you can click on the amount of comments that are spam in the dashboard and it will take you to that section.
I hate marking all as read! 🙁 I always feel like I am missing out!

My friend recently had her email hacked and they are using it to sell Viagra and Cialis. Not fun indeed!

Ugh! I am happy that didn’t happen to me! At least all of this is caught in my WordPress Spam Filter!
I use a password to post so I dont get spam … I dont know what it would look like if I didnt, but that seems highly unusual. You need someone with some tech know-how (and that sure isnt me)!

Diane’s idea to back up the blog is a good one. I’ll have to look into that.

What is wrong with your blogware? I haven’t had a spam comment in more than a year.
kapgar, that’s the “caught” spam. So it doesn’t show up but you can check it to make sure some real comments didn’t get spammed accidentally.

I started using the “SI Captcha” spam blocker a few months ago. It’s been working great.
I’d prefer not to use it but it’s saving me loads of time.
Actually the fact that I only get a few spams a week now and 1/2 are legitimate, makes me think I was missing some caught in the spam before now…
