Washington DC, Day 1
This is my first time going on travel for the job I started back in December. I’m in Washington DC all week for training that is being held at the hotel where I am staying.
Mommy, don’t go!
Originally, I was scheduled to do this training with someone from another division that I don’t know. But, fate changed, and I ended up getting to go with my favorite work friend! She works in a different division now, but when I started, she kind of showed me the ropes. We think we’re pretty lucky that we got to come to DC together!
When we got here last night, we decided to squeeze in a visit to the Washington National Cathedral.
Washington National Cathedral
Washington National Cathedral
We arrived fairly late in the evening, so mass was starting. We could hear their beautiful singing and organ playing from the back of the cathedral. The sound really resonated throughout the space.
We spent a bit of time walking around inside and around the cathedral, but I realized I still feel a bit burned out from all of the church/cathedral visiting I did in Rome/Europe. It’s not like once you see one, you’ve seen them all… but to me, they just aren’t as exciting the second time around. They’re still magnificent and beautiful, just maybe not as awe inspiring.
We were starving after visiting the Cathedral, and visited the first place by Dupont Circle that looked appetizing – some place called “DC Cafe,” where I got a falafel pita. Nom nom nom. I need to quit eating these things.
I had a falafel pita on Friday too!
My lifestyle on travel feels so different than at home – I have a per diem to cover my food for the day (it’s very generous) and I have a 2 minute commute… that doesn’t require me to get into any sort of vehicle. Now, if only the bed was comfortable…
AAAAH so jealous. I love DC and grew up there. Used to work in Dupont Circle. your pictures of the cathedral are amazing. Are you going to run on the mall? I’ve always wanted to do that.

The Cathedral and food look wonderful, I wish I was with you. Love
I really want to go to DC (now more than ever!). Hope your trip is fun even if it is work.

I really love DC. I lived down there for a summer, and my aunt & family live nearby so I’ve been a lot. I love the Cathedral, I’ve slept in it a few times (shh!!)

Ooh, it looks like a great time in D.C.! I still don’t know my way around there very well, even though I lived about two hours away. (Just like Chicago now.)
Do you think you’ll get a chance to go to Georgetown?
Falafel pita…ahh, fond memories!

Good pics!! The cathedral and the food!
I’m totally jealous you get to travel for work! I’m sure it might get tiring at some point, but how fun for now!! 🙂

OOh! Have fun! How great that you’re able to go with someone you know and like!!

How exciting. I’m so happy that you got to go with someone you really like!
My husband travels a lot for work and when he is home he always says he is so much more tired because he has such a long commute. I also probably don’t cook quite as exciting of meals as he is used to when he goes out every night with clients when he’s out of town.

It’s so fabulous that you got to go with a work friend! That makes work trips 100 times better.
I find that when traveling some things are easier and some are much harder. I usually get really tired of restaurant food by the end.

And if only the bed had Steven waiting for you at the end of the day. =)

I hope you enjoy the commute and do some relaxing in as well. It is nice to get away once in a while, even if it is for work.

I meant to send you a text or email wishing you safe travels, but by the time I had a chance to do it, I figured you’d probably already left. I was right! 😉
I have a hard time travelling heavily (in that it’s hard on my body), but I do sometimes wish I had a job that required at least a *tiny* bit of travel. Then again, my co-worker was regularly going to one of our plants in Kentucky to conduct trainings, so maybe I am better off in the position I’m in. Hee hee. (no offense to Kentuckians)
I love DC! What an awesome city. 🙂 I went to the University of Maryland, which is about five miles northeast of DC. My college roommate used to work in Georgetown, so it was always fun to go visit her at work and then walk around Georgetown with all the shops and restaurants. Not to mention all the monuments and everything that surround you.
Enjoy your work trip and the short commute!

OOH! did you see the darth vader gargoyle while you were there? (there really is one! i’ve seen it with my own eyes!)

mmmm, falafel.
My favorite thing about conferences is that ‘work’ is the same place as ‘home’…commute is in the elevator!

At least you got to go with you’re favorite work friend. Seems like you had a blast!

That falafel pita looks amazing. Yum.
Have fun, don’t work too hard!

Awesome pics. Enjoy DC. It’s been 37 years since I was there (yes, that dates me a lot). I need to go back. I had a planned trip there in 1999, but it didn’t work out.
