Happy Saturday
Things making me happy this Saturday:
- Sleeping in until 9:30!
- Waking up to Steven making banana donuts.
- Steven helping me find vegan-friendly* products at Target.
- Buying a dry-erase calendar to keep track of events/training!**
- Running an overcast 34:24 4-miler
- Registering for the 10/17/09 Kansas City Marathon. Steven and I discussed our long-term fitness goals a lot this week. He is going to start the 90-day P90X workout series soon, and focus on building muscle, along with becoming a better***/faster runner. I am going to start the marathon training in June, and focus on endurance, as well as speed training and mileage upkeep in the meantime. Steven told me to go ahead and register for the Chicago Marathon (through a charity) without him, that he would be a spectator, but I really don’t want to run that one without him, or search for a charity to raise money for that I am not 100% behind. I want to save the Chicago Marathon for something special that we can do together, whenever that may be. I chose Kansas City because it is still in the midwest (won’t have any travel shock), is a “smaller” race, and is Steven’s hometown – his parents, brother and a lot of friends still live there. And since the Kansas City Marathon registration is open until the day before the race, he is going to see how he feels about jumping in on the marathon training with me, and either sign up for the half marathon or full marathon version of that race.
- Steven getting to work on the Datsun 280Z today.
- Knowing we get to go to the park to run and see Star Trek tomorrow!
Too lazy to take a photo with my actual camera!
What’s making you happy today (whether or not it’s Saturday when you read this!)?
*I am planning on making trying veganism soon, and his support really means A LOT to me.
**I love calendars. I love writing out what I have to do and crossing it off. This makes me really giddy.
***Not better as in “faster is better,” but better as in, better breathing, better form, etc.
I am happy that my husband and kids helped me get my carpets steam cleaned and the wrap around deck all scrubbed for company next week.
Now I am happy to go see an old friend play the guitar, then to dueling pianos and a funny dive! Then tomorrow, a run and Star Trek for mother’s day!!
Happy Saturday!
Good luck with going vegan, I may need some tips one day!
Kansas City sounds like a perfect race for you two. It’ll be a great experience!
How big is the KC marathon? What’s the course like? I’m still trying to find one to do in the fall.
Hotch Potchery – It sounds like we have the same fun day planned for tomorrow! ๐ That is awesome that the family helped get some tasks done today. It always make things go by faster! I will keep you posted on the veganism. I am really excited about it.
Mica – I think it will be! I am psyched, even though it is 5 months away… that’s probably the same way you feel about Chicago. I just can’t wait to start training!
Beth – I am not sure on the amount of people. I saw on wikipedia that <1500 people run it, but Runner's World says <8500! The course does have some hills. You can check out an elevation map here - http://www.waddellandreedkcmarathon.org/course/documents/KCMarathonElevation_000.pdf. If you are familiar with the city, the map for the race is here – http://kcmarathon.org/course/documents/Mapsallmarathon09.pdf. It would be great if you decided to run it!
This month I’ve been trying to do vegan. It’s a lot harder than I thought. Honey is in freaking EVERYTHING. And during my vacation this past week I pretty much gave up after the first day there. Will be back on the strict looking starting on Monday again.
Things that made me happy for on this Saturday: being done with a 10 hr drive and back in Illinois. Things to be happy for on Sunday: to be back in DeKalb and HOME and to see my kitties!!
Those are all great reasons to be happy for you and Steven! Shhhhooooot, I’d be happy if someone baked me some banana donuts! Lucky guy! Anywho,…. I am happy that Sat night is my last night of work for the week and then I will have 2 nights in my own bed until it’s time to do it again. I’m glad that tomorrow/today is Mother’s Day and I will be able to do whatever I want, which will be sleeping and relaxing. I’m looking forward to seeing “Celebrity Apprentice” Sunday and I hope Joan Rivers kicks Annie the Poker Players arse…. hmmm…. and chocolate, I’m sure there will be some chocolate in there somewhere ๐ Have a lovely weekend!
I just read this entry. Yeh!!!! I can’t wait to see you run here in KC. I’ll even take
the camera in for a needed check-up. Or, maybe get a new one. I’m so excited.
Remember KC is hilly, as you discovered around our house. Or, is the marathon
run in Overland Park – completely flat.
Enjoy Star Trek. Remember to breathe.
Love,
Mom
I think I told you about my son being vegan for a while when he was younger. I have some awesome cookbooks that we used all th time and still use; The Garden of Vegan and La Dolce Vegan. The both have great recipes. There is one more that I want but I don’t remember the name of it. I think it is on my amazon wishlist though…maybe it is called Vegan Freak or something like that.
Lindsay – Being done with a long drive is DEFINITELY a reason to be happy! I love that first step out of the car when you finally get to stretch your legs ๐ I was wondering about honey. I know it is in a lot of pre-packaged stuff, and even breads. We also use it at home to make our granola bars ๐
JQ – Sounds like an AWESOME weekend! Especially the being home from work part. I hope you got to do everything yesterday that you wanted, especially the chocolate consumption ๐
Mom in KC – I am so excited about the race, especially that you guys will be there! I think this definitely warrants a new camera, hee hee ๐ It is a hilly course, so I need to find some hills out here to train on!
tori – I will have to see if I can find those, maybe at the library or something! I do have the Vegan Freak book, but it is not a cookbook.
I’m way behind in my blog reading, but I was away all weekend meeting a few bloggers so…lol
You’re totally my hero with all these races and marathons. How many have you run? You’re organized and everything…so jealous. I wish I was a runner!
Bethany – That sounds like a SUPER FUN weekend! Will we get to read about it? (Maybe you already posted, LOL!). Hee hee. I have run… maybe 6 or 7 5K’s since Sept ’08, but only 1 10K and 1 half marathon! Do you want to be a runner? There are a lot of good start up programs! ๐
Good for you doing the KC Marathon. It sounds like you are hooked on running. I thought about the Chicago myself until I realized I had to raise a bizzilion dollars for charity since it is closed.
Tony – Thanks ๐ I was the same way about Chicago. Do you think you will sign up for something else? There are actual quite a few others around the same time. Some in Indianapolis ๐
