Sad that the race is near
Update: Aron is right – the Chicago Marathon is now closed. Funny thing is – it was open this morning when I checked it. Total bummer. Steven wanted our first full to be local – time to look into Wisconsin!
Earlier this week, a coworker (who is also a runner) asked if I will be excited when the May 2nd Half Marathon is over.
No way! I will be SAD when it’s over! I am having so much fun training. I love being on a schedule. I love having a race to look forward to.
And yes, I am a little bit worried of keeping my mileage up when I am NOT training for something specific. I feel great when I get at least 25 miles in a week.
My guess is, I will spending most of May 3rd convincing Steven to sign up for the Chicago FULL Marathon before it’s too late. (Wait, is it a good idea to give away my reasoning for signing up? Ha ha.)
Related story: On Saturday, after I got my medal, Steven said to me, “That medal is pretty cool. A lot better than a block of cheese.”
Ha ha. Yes, the Kenosha Half Marathon Medals are blocks of cheese:
And… today is the first day that weather.com is showing the forecast for race day. Let the worrying begin! I have absolutely NO faith in weather predictions. But I still look at them, and somewhat plan my life around them. Why? I am not sure.
Looks good so far…
Wow, May 2 is right around the corner. I will be in Vegas playing blackjack. Good luck on the half. And I say sign up for the Chicago right away so you have your next goal and keep up the momentum!!!
I’m a little sad that my half is over too….but I think it’s my other events I have lined up that are keeping me going. So…..I say go for the FULL!! You can do it! AND you have plenty of time to train – Chicago isn’t until October, right?
I am SO excited about the cheese medal! It was part of my motivation for deciding to run Kenosha! And the weather looks good, so far…knock on wood, cross your fingers!!
I like having a training plan too…otherwise, I just kind of go out and run however far I feel like, and I do a lot of the same distances over and over again. Since I started running in high school, I always had someone telling me what to do every day, which is probably why I like having a training plan to follow.
Just to give you some anecdotal evidence that racing is addictive … I ran my first marathon in San Diego in June 2001. I came back, took a trip to Europe and immediately started training for the Chicago marathon that fall. After two marathons in the same year, I decided pacing myself was important and dropped back to one a year for the next few years. Racing is most definitely addictive, largely because it instills an active lifestyle for you. I say sign up for the full marathon now! Forget waiting until after the half!
wow, is training that much fun? but I’ll bet after this, you’ll only find yourself another race to train for!
You will keep going, I am sure of it. Look at all your race tickers on the side!
I am SO PROUD of your motivation and drive. Go get that block of cheese! (ha ha)
Holding out hope that the weather is great for you!
I am still working on getting in good enough running condition to be able to START training for the Disney half. I really think I am going to love the schedule too.
Thanks for the comment on my dog, the last 24 hours has been awful, and the blog support is way more than I could have imagined.
i know what you mean about having and keeping a schedule!! i am the same way!!! don’t get me wrong, i like for small tiny things to change but for the most part i am so a creature of habit!!!! woah!!! 25 miles a week!!! sadly enough right now i don’t even drive 25 miles a week let alone exercise that much!!!! as soon as the kitchen is done though it is back on!!! i am proud of you and can’t wait to see you with the cheese around your neck!!!!
=^..^=
That’s why I love to sign up for two at a time! Gives me something to look forward to once I’m done with the first one. I admit, though, I was sad when i finished my first one. It actually felt kind of anticlimactic.
i am always sad that races are over too, but thats what gets me signing up for the next one!!
i heard chicago is sold out!
You should definitely sign up for Chicago because it will give you a new goal, as soon as you’re finished rocking your second Half.
…And I’m doing Chicago. What more of a reason could one need? ๐
Wow your marathon is almost here! I totally agree that it’s easier to run when you have a schedule and a race to train for. I’ve been between schedules for a few weeks and it was tough. Can’t wait to see how it goes May 2!
i can’t believe may 2 is comign up so soon! you’re a rockstar!
hahahaha, i LOVE that medal. super aws. ๐
ahhh the cheese is pretty cool.
Uh yeah, definitely ZERO trust in weather forecasts. I’ll cross my fingers for you that the prediction doesn’t change anytime soon. ๐
Such a cute cheesy medal!
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for great weather and for a great run for u!
Beth – I’ll be thinking of you winning big money while I run! ๐ And… it’s already too late for Chicago. Unless we join a charity and fundraise…
Ashley – I like to keep a full schedule of races, but we haven’t been signing up for as many. I think October is more than enough time to train!
Susan – I can’t wait to wear that medal either! I think it is super fun. I think if I wasn’t following a program I would also do the same mileage over and over… and probably at the same pace! I think I will find something to follow, no matter what the plan ends up being.
SoMi’s Nilsa – I should have followed your advice and signed up right after I posted this, when it was STILL OPEN! :'( I read about those people who do a marathon a month – that is just crazy! I think one or two a year is a good idea.
Sophia – I do enjoy training that much. I like to cross things off of myh todo list. I am big on that. And you’re right – I will find another one!
diane – Thanks! Hee hee! ๐
sizzle – Thank you! Please keep that wish all week! ๐
Hotch Potchery – Aren’t you SUPER EXCITED about the Disney Half? WE ARE!!! I can’t wait. And I am happy that you felt better after writing about your dog. It really helps to “get it out,” doesn’t it?
CourtneyInControl – Whoa! I wish I didn’t have to drive that much a week! I wish I could work from home… ha ha. Anyway… I wish I was more flexible with things! But I feel like I need to be regimented.
Erin – I hope it doesn’t feel that way for me! I didn’t feel like that when I read your race report. I feel excited and proud of you ๐
aron – Oh man! I wish it wasn’t true about Chicago. I should have signed up yesterday morning when I checked. How crazy my timing is. We are thinking about doing a charity group, but I am not sure if I am too into that.
Mica – I am sad I didn’t sign up ๐ I wanted to do Chicago and meet you!
Amanda – I hope that if I plan ahead now for being ahead, it won’t be “too bad.” I can’t wait to tell you all about the race!
Alice – Thanks! I can’t wait to show you a pic of me wearing it! Hee hee.
DeAnne – I think so too!
Jen – I know! Why do we even predict it? Especially in the midwest where it varies so much from day to day.
Gina (Mannyed) – Thanks!
Race registrations still available with Anthony Travel (the company I work for). Book two nights lodging at select hotels (starting at $219 per night plus) and secure up to four registrations per room. That’s two nights hotel plus race registration for just $369 per person.

Jason – Thanks! I am doing the KC marathon this year, but will try for Chicago again next year!
