Hidden Desire

Every morning, Data likes to sit on the back of the toilet in the bathroom and watch Steven blow dry his hair. He’s not looking at Steven, he’s looking at the blow dryer.

This morning, I had to get up earlier than Steven, and Data sat near the sink the whole time, watching me using the hair straightener.

I think he has a hidden desire to become a hair stylist! Data – my advice is to keep watching Steven. He knows what he’s doing. I do not.

Steven and I use the same hairstylist. When she was on maternity leave for 3 months, Steven and I didn’t get our hair cut for 3 months. When she came back, and we went in for an appointment together, she only needed to trim Steven’s hair! She didn’t even charge him for a cut! She raved about how soft and nice his hair was.

Then she got to me.

And cut off about 3 inches. And asked Steven to teach me how to blow dry my hair instead of use the straightener. Apparently the straightener is not supposed to be used every day? I obviously didn’t learn my lesson, but I have cut back quite a bit. I’ll see if she notices when I go in for (hopefully just) a trim on Friday.

Oops, I’ve become a bit sidetracked. I wanted to say, I do realize the only reason Data pays attention to what either of us are doing in the morning is because he hopes to catch our attention and be fed early. But I still appreciate having him there, keeping me company as I get ready at 4:30 in the morning.

That is, until I move on to makeup and he starts attacking the brushes and mascara wand!

  1. Haha…he is so darn cute! I have three kitties and they love watching us get ready in the morning. Although we feed them right after we get up just to shut them up. They especially like the shower. The other morning when I was done and threw back the shower curtain, there were all three of them staring at me! It was too funny! Aren’t animals just the greatest!?! I much prefer them over humans.

  2. Oh man, I love him (Data)! Manny just waits outside the bathroom door – occassionally peeking inside. Manny is unsure of the hair dryer. He’s fasinated and freaked out at the hair dryer all at the same time.

I love the pictures of Data!

    4:30am?? Damn, that’s early.

Data is such a cool cat, at least from what you tell us and the pictures you post. And you are right, he’s really only wanting food, but is clever enough to find a way to hang out by one of you, hoping that your next visit will be his food dish.

Your husband and my dad, the only two men I’ve ever heard of using a blow dryer daily. My dad has short hair, so I’m not sure why he uses it, maybe just to get it to dry quicker? He also sometimes sticks his head out the window while driving – seriously! like a dog does! – to… I don’t know… get some volume in it? He’s weird.

Katie likes to share my bath mat in the morning while I get ready in front of the mirror. She doesn’t seem too interested in the blow dryer, but she will run away if I turn a way that blows the air towards her, even if I’m 5 feet away.

  5. Data is so funny!!!! and adorable!!!! everytime you post pics of him I just want to give him scritches!!!! I think Data would be an excellent hair stylist!!! Good luck at your appointment on Friday- and don’t feel bad… I kinda knew that you weren’t supposed to use the flat iron everyday but I still do… at least Data has enough sense to think that if he keeps you company you might feed him earlier… the kitties just meow until I give in, lol. and 4:30 in the morning!!! I feel for you!!
Thanks for the pics of Data!!! he has so much personality!!!
    =^..^=

Love the second picture! πŸ™‚ So cute!

  7. sizzle says:

    4:30am?!

That time of day hurts me.

  8. Hilly says:

    There’s a 4:30 am now?

It’s true that you shouldn’t use the straightener every day but I think that even the right blow-drying technique isn’t exactly the same as using the straightener!

  9. claire says:

    love that 2nd shot!

  10. Alice says:

    4:30am?! *dies*

hee! a blowdryer! my cats are scared of mine, but bella stands on her back legs, with her front legs propped up on me and cries the entire time i’m getting ready in th ebathroom.

  11. suze says:

4:30 am?!?!?! And I thought 5:45 was early! Why such a dark hour of the morning?

Data is a British Blue? We have a Russian Blue and I think the Blue cats have the BEST personalities!!! We can not have any door closed inside the house-ever. Whiskers will sit outside the door and cry, no matter what side of the door he is on. I also can not go into the bathroom without giving him water from the tub, which we turn on as a slight stream for him to drink from every time we have to “go.”
Great cats!! I too LOVE the second picture!! Great shot!

That really is early. Yikes. I’m just starting to fall into a good sleep at 4:30. Oh well. Has Data been introduced to emery boards? My cats LOVE them. Or maybe they HATE them! I’m not really sure but if you wave one in front of either cat, they must stop it with their paws/claws, then sniff it, lick it and commence to biting it. The sound of them biting it is like fingernails on the chalkboard to me. But every time I need to file a nail, the cats are there. So I keep a couple of extras for them to beat on. It’s a cheap way to make them happy for a few minutes.

Aww, Data is such a cute little furball πŸ™‚ How funny that he just watches you guys! LOL! He attacks your mascara brush? Oh no! Silly little boy! Have a great weekend!

Amy @ Passages to the Past – I sometimes prefer them too. I thinks it’s so funny when Data waits outside the shower, or even the bath! He always looks so concerned, like “Did you know you are getting yourself all wet?!”

Gina (Mannyed) – Thanks Gina πŸ™‚ I think Data was more freaked out until Steven started using it everyday. Then he just became fascinated…

martymankins – Too early! I know! Thanks, we do think Data’s cool – more like a dog than a cat! Isn’t it funny though, that food seems to always be their motivation?

Jenn – Steven started using the hair dryer because his hair is so long now! I wonder if he will get used to it and use it when it is shorter, like your dad! Don’t you love having Katie in there to keep you company? πŸ™‚

CourtneyInControl – Thanks πŸ™‚ Data does want you to come pet him πŸ™‚ The flat iron is just so convenient! (And why couldn’t I think of calling it that instead of hair straightener? Duh!)

Christina – Thanks. He misses his aunt and uncle!

sizzle – I was definitely feeling the pain last night. I wanted to take a nap when I got home.

Hilly – Ha! Your comment is still making me laugh, “There’s a 4:30 am now?” Hee hee hee. I also don’t think the hair dryer has the same effect – -it makes the hair a bit… bigger. I like sleek hair. At least for now.

    claire – Thank you! πŸ™‚

Alice – Aww Bella. Is Oliver in the fridge while you get ready? Hee hee hee!

suze – That is when I have to get up if I want to catch the 5:45 train and get to work by 7:30. I know, it’s awful, isn’t it? My normal wake-up time is 5:15!

kaylen – Thank you! πŸ˜€ I am not sure if Data is a blue. The vet thinks he is just an American Shorthair! But I do think he has a wonderful personally. It sounds like him and Whiskers have a few things in common – especially not wanting to be left out! πŸ˜‰

teeni – Ooo, the emery board is a good idea! I am always looking for new toys for Data. We have a few around the house…

JavaQueen – He loves to attack my makeup! I don’t know what the deal is! He just wants to play with EVERYTHING! πŸ˜€ I hope you have a great weekend too! πŸ™‚

Some ways to stem the damage from the iron:
-Use a ceramic one if you don’t already
-Let your hair air dry as much as possible
-Use a thermal protectant on your hair before straightening. I use the Got2b Crazy Sleek Blow Dry & Flat Iron spray lotion…it’s cheap but I think really good!
My hair stylist gives me a hard time too, but I told her I don’t have her at my house every day to fix my hair for me so I gotta do what I can. πŸ˜‰

  17. kilax says:

diane – I wish my hair stylist lived in my house to make me look fab everyday! My routine is to wash my hair at night and put serum in it, then let it dry and straighten it in the morning. I think… I need a new product or something though. I should try the stuff you recommended!
