5K: numero uno
Today was our 5K!
Before the race…
… and after!
Our neighbors came to cheer us on and took a few photos. It’s always nice to have someone there to cheer you on through the finish line! (And I should write an entire post about how wonderful these neighbors are – a husband, wife and daughter. They actually live in our neighborhood, not next door.)
Two of our neighbors and us
We’ve been running in the dark, most weeknights, around 8:00. It’s the earliest we can get outside to run. I was thinking this race would be easier than our night runs – we would actually be able to see where we were running. BUT, it was a lot hotter than when we’ve been running, since we’ve been running at night. It was about 80 degrees, and I think it is normally 65 (or less!) when we practice. I had a hard time breathing. I am kind of disappointed in that. I am happy Steven was there to push me and keep me going.
Oh well. Our finish time was 29:00! That’s encouraging enough that we may sign up for a few more 5Ks in September/October, or maybe even train for a 10K!
Quite a few people showed up for the race! It’s always fun with a lot of people there!
Running up the last hill. Check out my… “muscular” legs.
I always try to sprint the end!
let me be the first to say WHOOOHOOOOOOO well done & congrats!!!!!!!
The one and only real race thingy I joined was the Kuantan Beach Run – I ended up walking most of it, and, even funner, had my calves seize up on me after it was all over, ugh. But I do look back at that time in my life as one of the best health-wise.
One thing to consider doing again, to help with the weight loss and healthy lifestyle push.
Congrats! Way to go!
*lynne* – Thanks! I CANNOT imagine running on the beach! Wow! That’s a SERIOUS workout! And I know you can do a 5K – it only took me a month and a half to train π
claire – Thank you! π
Uh, girl? 29 min is a VERY respectable time. For a bad runner like me, it’s the best I’ll ever do, and for most people it’s way better than they ever will! CONGRATS! Oh, and that last picture…. does that mean you beat him? π
Sub 10-minute miles for your first 5K race. That’s a pretty damn good place to begin. Yay for finishing. And yay for rocking out the good time!
Kyra – I cannot fairly say that I beat Steven. He was ahead of me by a pace or two the entire time, and the only reason I am in front of him in the end is because I always find extra energy to sprint. Steven really did a lot better than I did on this race! And I cannot imagine you are a bad runner, Kyra!
Nilsa – Thank you! I hope we can slowly eat off some more time π
You’re awesome! I’m so happy for you. That’s a great accomplishment!
Congratulations!!!
Wow! Congrats on completing the 5K! That’s an accomplishment! How nice of your neighbors! Looks like the weather cooperated for you! And it looks like a pretty run!
So awesome. And cool pictures of you and Steven.
Way to go Kim!!!
sizzle – Thank you!
Jenn – Thanks! π
teeni -Thnanks! I would much rather have this hotter weather than all of the storms we had last weekend π
martymankins – Thanks! I thought our neighbor did a great job with the photos. Any news on your exercise progress?
Lisa – Thank you !!! π
See my comments to another post here on my progress. In a word, it’s coming soon.
Woo hoo!!! Way to go you two! π
I’m super impressed, and I only *wish* I could make a 29 minute finish time.
Maybe we can find a race the four of us can do sometime…
i am SO SUPER IMPRESSED!! 5k seems like a LOT to me. whenever i say that, people are always like “oh, no, it’s only like 3 miles!” and i’m like “THREE MILES IS A LOT OF MILES, MY FRIEND.” i am… not a runner. so i am super impressed!
martymankins – I saw it just after I posted. Oops!
diane – That sounds like fun! Shall we just let the boys go ahead of us? π
Alice – Ha ha. Thanks so much! When I started training, 3 miles was a lot. You slowly build up to it, but I don’t know if I could ever do more than 6 or 10 miles…
wahoo! congratulations π
CONGRATS!!! seriously, I probably couldn’t do 3 laps around the track without walking, slowly building up to it takes time, dedication and uh TIME π I think that you did a great job.
WOOOOOOOOO HHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes, I’m a loud cheerer
Suze – THANK YOU!!!! π
de – Maybe after starting your exercise tomorrow, you’ll be able to?!!?!?!
This is the coolest thing. You and your huz make such a nice looking couple. I wish my huz and I did stuff like this together. You guys must be so proud of yourselves! WAY TO GO!!
I am super proud of you and Steven!!!
You go girl! I am so proud of you! That is really, really cool! Good job!
javaqueen14 – Aww. Thank you! You could do stuff like this together! Er, if you ever got some time off to spend together?
Felicia – Thank you π
Amy – Thanks!
Congrats! I miss running but I think it’s going to be a while before I can do it regularly. My wife and I walked eight miles each day while on vacation and I hurt every day. It was better on my knees and ankles than going up and down a steep cliff, but it was still quite a walk.
You guys are just too cute. π
ajooja – Thank you! And thanks for saying we’re cute π Eight miles a day! That’s a good start to exercise! π
