Lake Front Property

Do you recall the post about the giant pot hole (really, a sink hole) at my parent’s house?

It seems they have bigger problems now. But with the same bridge. (Click for the bigger image)

So apparently… there’s some flooding going on in Iowa? Hmm. Do you think the water will go down, and the highways will open back up before I drive out there this Friday?

Some flooding? Breaking all kinds of records by 5-6′ in some areas. Looked about 1.5-2′ deep here when I crossed it this morning. (Disclaimer-I have a tall truck, wouldn’t try it with a car. Also this area is just back up water so no current, never would have crossed it if there was any current.)

  2. kapgar says:

If the heat continues, you might not have a problem.

I remember what I was going to say about the picture in your banner… why are you kissing Phil Jackson?

  3. Nilsa says:

Oh my! Hope you’re taking the tallboy truck to Iowa this weekend – and have a few extra pairs of clam diggers.

  4. Odie says:

Yeah. Good luck with that. The skies are cloudy and more rain is expected today. Saylorville has gone over the spillway and the lake is headed to Des Moines right now. Water’s been over highway 30 at Boone for 3 or 4 days now. Lower Ledges has been closed for at least 2 weeks. But, hey, we haven’t had to run the air conditioning yet, and it hasn’t been dry enough to mow for over a week, so we’ve got that going for us!

  5. Alice says:

yikes. seems like anywhere you go right now has some sort of calamitous weather. good luck, bring some galoshes ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Courtney Ilax says:

OMG Kim. My mother’s house is all the way under. It’s in the main level. Nick and I are just hoping the levy doesn’t break or the water doesn’t go above 26 feet. All Cedar Falls downtown is under water. .. Good luck with getting to iowa on friday. Alot of roads are closed due to flooding. Most highways are also.

So much water all over the place. It’s crazy. We’ve been getting a lot of rain here, too. Nothing like Iowa and Wisconsin. I hope it all clears up before you head out. Don’t want to get stuck on some water soaked bridge.

  8. tori says:

Oh my goodness! That is crazy!

We are fine but there is supposed to be flooding a few miles away from my house. I think it is supposed to rain again tomorrow too.

  9. em says:

Yeah, what Odie said. Court ave is closed in DM and the bridges are all sandbagged. There’s supposed to be more rain in the watershed regions tonight. Not looking good…

  10. Catherine says:

Holy Cow, omg. This weather across the country has just been weird and astonishing. Hope you and yours are all okay.

  11. I was just coming over to ask you how your family was faring with the crazy weather Iowa has been experiencing. Pretty nasty stuff. We had a couple of days near 100 temps that ended with a severe storm. Now its back into the 80’s…ahh. Hope your family stays safe and dry in Iowa.

  12. Jess says:

I’ve been hearing a lot about this flooding from various bloggers. It’s such a mess! I hope it’s receded by tomorrow.

  13. marissa says:

omg. the weather in the midwest has been horrific recently. i can’t believe what’s been going on in iowa, indiana, minnesota. i’m from mn, and my mom calls everyday with new and terrible weather reports.

  14. Danielle says:

we are coming this weekend too…hopefully we both can make it. the flooding is really bad.

  15. Cousin Denise says:

We woke up to water in our basement Sunday morning, in 2 of the rooms. The road that we take to go downtown and to work was under 2′ of water. In the 23 years we have lived in this house that road has NEVER been under water. Both north and south entrances into town were closed off due to several feet of water over the bridges and the roads. There was water(deep water) where there has never been water ever before. The bridges will have to be inspected before they can be used.
They opened the streets in town today, but you still can’t get into town from the north or the south. The bridges are 1 mile to the north and 1/2 mile to the south.
There are gravel roads to use to get to the town. A town 18 miles to the north had sewage coming up in a new housing developement. We feel very fortunate we didn’t have to deal with that or worse. BE VERY CAREFUL!

  16. Lisa says:

That sucks! Hope it’s dried up so you don’t have to wade across.

  17. kilax says:

Dad – excuses excuses. You like the water so you can drive the M… what’s it called? through it!

kapgar – I had to look up Phil Jackson! There is a slight resemblance… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nilsa – We got there and back okay – we just avoided going to my parents house!

Odie – No mowing? Woo-hoo! Wait, is there going to be ANY grass left, or will the water wash it all away? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alice – What is the deal with all of this Sh*tty weather? Mother Nature must be pissed!

Courtney Ilax – I feel so bad for your mom. What bad luck, and a load of undeserved stress ๐Ÿ™

martymankins – We get all this rain now… then we’ll probably be dry for the rest of the summer and wishing for more!

tori – Did the flooding ever get to your house? I remember a few years ago Steven and I couldn’t get around out here because every highway we tried to cross was over the Fox River or something.

em – It would be erie to see Ames and DM will all of that flood water. ๐Ÿ™

Catherine – Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone in my fam is okay except my SiL’s mom’s house. Their basement was flooded to the ceiling! ๐Ÿ™

Gina (Mannyed) – Is it EVER that hot there? What is the deal with that?!

Jess – I think it recedes in the north… then goes to the towns in the south. I wish it would just get to the ocean already! ๐Ÿ˜‰

marissa – I didn’t know MN had it bad too! Is it flooding as well?

Danielle – Did the flood get you on your way home? Did you drive the whole way? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cousin Denise – Yikes! I hope not many things are ruined in your house, and that the water finally receded!

Lisa – It’s gone down quite a bit… but is revealing a lot of damage!

  18. deutlich says:

Ooh, I have no good advice.

  19. kilax says:

deutlich – Maybe just “stay far away”? ๐Ÿ˜‰
